Sign up and create your workspace

A workspace is your company’s own copy of ProjectSmith: your people, your Autotask connection, your boards and your time. The person who signs up becomes the workspace Owner.

Before you start

• About five minutes.
• Your work email address. Use the address you want to sign in with every day; if your company uses Microsoft 365, use that address so you can switch to Sign in with Microsoft later.
• No payment card. The trial is free and you can add a card later (see The 14-day trial below).
• You don’t need your Autotask details yet. You connect Autotask after the workspace exists.

Create your workspace

1. Go to www.getprojectsmith.com and choose Start free trial.
2. Enter your workspace name (usually your company name) and check the short name used in links. The short name can’t be changed later.
3. Enter your name and your work email address.
4. The region is Australia: your workspace’s data is hosted there. United Kingdom and United States regions are planned. Billing is in US dollars. See Data residency and sub-processors.
5. Accept the terms of service and privacy policy, and submit the form. You are taken to the ProjectSmith sign-in page with your email address already filled in.
6. Create your sign-in: confirm your email address, choose a password, and enter the one-time code sent to your email (multi-factor authentication is required). If your company uses Microsoft 365, you can turn on Sign in with Microsoft for your organisation afterwards. See Single sign-on.
7. You land in your new workspace as the Owner.

The 14-day trial

• The trial lasts 14 days and includes every feature, including the Planner features (capacity, approvals, reports).
• No card is needed to start, and nothing is charged during the trial.
• To keep going, add a card on Settings > Billing before the trial ends. Billing starts when the trial ends. See Plans and billing.
• We email you before the trial ends, so the first charge is never a surprise.
• If the trial ends with no card on file, the workspace is suspended rather than deleted. Add a card on Settings > Billing to reactivate it.

What you start with

Every subscription starts at the minimum of 1 Planner seat and 2 Member seats (US$99/month once the trial ends). As the Owner you hold the Planner seat. You can buy more seats at any time, during the trial or after.

Next steps

1. Invite your team and assign seats.
2. Connect Autotask so your projects, people and tickets appear.

Common questions

Can I change region later? No. A workspace stays in the region it was created in. When more regions open, contact support about moving.

Can someone else be the Owner? The person who signs up is the Owner. Sign up with the account of the person who should own the subscription, then invite everyone else.
